It’s Like Strawberry Fields

Monday, September 19th, 2005

In between Saturday night and Sunday morning and we’re dancing on an epicenter. It could be temporary or imaginary or transparent, but it’s there with its own sort of beauty, and it’s still shaking.

We pile out of the car and everyone splits up to kiss different people in different places. Then Murder on the Dancefloor blares from the windows, and we shrug, and shriek, and dance until 5.

Sharing a cab home, The New Girl asks how I know everyone.

I shake my head and realize for the first time in a while, I can see stars in the sky.

Which fashion VIP was spotted backstage in this shirt after Heatherette? And what must we give this person to make me one?

So fabulous.

Let the Apollo Sunshine In!

Sunday, September 18th, 2005

Shouts and giggles to Apollo Sunshine for scoring their first New York Times mention this weekend!

I grew up with these boys and they’re awesome.

And yes, they stole our friends’ parent’s planes to play concerts on them all the time.

Check them out of you get a chance; you know how Imaginary Socialites love real good music…

The Imaginary Socialite presents the Fashion Week Rock Star award to Lydia Hearst-Shaw.

Because she’s sweet, and cool, and calm, and awesome. Hopefully she’ll be out and about – minus the hair poof – for a long time to come.

as for me, I need a nap…

See You Later, Alligator

Saturday, September 17th, 2005

Hope you’ve enjoyed The Imaginary Socialite’s first fashion week.

Now it’s time to take a little break, eat some carbs, and flip-flop it all over town.

Preferably to a certain guy’s apartment, right this very minute.

xoxo.

I Love You When You’re Walking Away

Friday, September 16th, 2005

At Kai Kuhne’s first solo show, a slew of kids stood at the back, shoulders hunched and faces scowled and golden circle bags dangling from their arms.

Wow, they were jealous.

Wow, Kai did his own show and it was pretty beautiful.

Funny how things always turn round right like that.

Spotted from my seat at a show this morning. So distracted, I couldn’t see the clothes.

Also, 10 points if you can guess who has a brand new tattoo. Want a hint? Check the misshapes site, and click photos.

Mama Don’t Take My Kodachrome

Behold, Merlin Bronques at work.

Pretty gorgeous.

Also, Janice Dickinson in the B. Rude for Boy George show. Also pretty gorgeous. Also a walking soundbyte. But one with a damn good runway walk.

And she called me honey and we kissed.

Hey Bronques, where were you for that Kodak moment?!

Bravo to CMJ for proving that models aren’t the only cute ones in New York this week.

If you’re looking for some more adorable eye candy, I highly suggest the following events:

Dimmak/ Cold Crush showcase (F)

Spinto Band concert (F)

Tarts of Pleasure/ Stolen Transmission afterparty at Orchard Bar (F)

Misshapes, with Conrad Ventur djing! (S)

I don’t know anything about music, but I always know where the pretty people are…

check out www.cmj.com for details.

PS – these guys definitely aren’t playing a CMJ show…

Girls! Girls! Girls!

Because of an early morning snag, shows are starting REALLY late in the tents today.

If you need a distraction and you’ve finished reading today’s Daily, feast your eyes on this runway flashback: Betsey’s big finale.

Mail in the Morning

To: am.i@imaginarysocialite.com
From: temperly@TheGirlNotTheLabel.com
Subject: I am an imaginary trustfundarian.

So with all this talk (press outings) and speculation as to who you are, isn’t it becoming increasing hard to keep this up? I mean, I read your page all the time and your Fashion Week coverage seems to suggest that all the (other) editors and designers know exactly who you are. That being the case, are you frustrated that you have to really watch what you say now? Maybe you’re holding out for a book deal? : )

T.

Hi Temperly,

Great name. Great Monday show, too.

You’re right, it’s easy enough to know who I am.

And if you do know who I am, you know that I’ll say whatever I think about whomever I want, pretty much all the time.

But I’ll admit this: I’ve learned in the past few months that it’s poor form to insult people just because you can. I’ll call someone out when they’ve behaved or dressed badly, but taking shots because you know people will read them… it’s very last season. At least for me.

Hope that makes sense. And, hope you still like what you’re reading.

If not, you know where to find me:

ps – a book deal? actually, I’m holding out for some Lanvin… everything else comes in good time…

She’s a Rainbow

Today Anne Dexter Jones told me how to 1) hail a cab 2) deal with shopaholic friends 3) pick up a rock star 4) do that crazy east-side-west-side thing with my fingers. I mastered all but one of her pointers…

Anne, you’re a total frockstar and we LOVE you! (and Charlotte and Samantha and Marc and Annabelle too).
