Thursday Styles: A PSA

Thursday, June 18th, 2009

Dear New York Times,

I love you, but not today.

Your story on plus size fashion was pretty good - Beth Ditto, yay; Adele, yay; Jennifer Hudson, yay.

But doing your fashion shoot inside a supermarket? With the model holding a bag of frozen food? For real?!

We get she’s plus size. She doesn’t need the sack of Ore-Ida to send the message. And neither do millions of young women who enjoy eating french fries, regardless of their size.

Next time – nicer, please?

xo IS

PS: Jordin Sparks is a size 10-12. So that’s actually still “normal” size, unless… um… you work at Thursday Styles.

Dear IS -

I saw this and couldn’t resist. I was just in Omaha hanging out with my friend Shawn, whose band Digital Leather is kinda blowing up. He had a week between tours and I flew out for a visit.

At a BBQ I saw this and just about died. I actually made up a story that my best friend in New York had the same dress and I just had to take a picture for her to see. I think this may mean I’m going to hell.

xo

aw, no, not hell… maybe just a very crowded dressing room…?

Things To Discuss This Week…

Sunday, June 14th, 2009

1. Blackbook‘s Blondie on The City?!

2. Nina Garcia, the sort-of sequel.

3. Cosmetics moguls in love… with Simon and Schuster.

4. Beth Ditto, the disappearing act.

5. When in doubt (or banned from public fun by your agency), wink, peace, and pout!

6. The Real Housewives. If there’s nothing to discuss, you can always bring up The Real Housewives. Even fashion babes at Vogue watch it, I can promise you that.

Thought I saw you the other day

You changed your hair but you looked the same

Well I make wishes late in the day

You’re six feet under and you’re safe.

Editor’s Note – It’s always after posts like this that I get some random blog comment going, “Hi, I don’t get this blog at all.” And I’m like, that’s okay, because this blog doesn’t get you either…?

Girls In White Dresses…

Sunday, June 14th, 2009

What’s the big difference between the two Marc by Marc dresses, seen at left?

One’s worn by a model and one’s on its own.

Okay.

One’s from Nordstrom and one’s from Net-a-Porter.

No big deal.

One’s $550 and one’s almost $120 less?

Yeah, now you’ve got something…
